NFL Draft

Last weekend was the NFL Draft were NFL teams choose college players that they want to be on thier team. The Draft is an inexact sciece of sorts. Teams are chossing players from college who they feel will best translate into an NFL player. There are always hits and misses, as in good picks and bad picks. The best teams are usually the ones who do well in the Draft. Most teams count on thier scouts to provide the necessary tangibles and intangibles that make some of these players elite. Some players could be 'hidden gems' players who are overlooked and pick in the later rounds or not drafted at all and still end up as Hall of Fame players; example: Joe Montana was one of the greatest quaterbacks ever, he was picked in the 3rd round. Teams usually don't get a return of their Draft for 2 to 3 years because it is easier to judge which players have become good and which have not. A prime example how it is so difficult to project players was the Peyton Manning/Ryan Leaf debate. Some teams liked Leaf and others liked Manning. Now its clear that Peyton had it, two time NFL MVP, and Ryan, NOT in the NFL, did not. Another example was in 1999 when there was debate to who was the best quarterback, Tim Couch, Akili Smith, or Donavan McNabb and Eagles fans know who got the best of that. Only time will tell on this years class
