Some stats about guns in the US

I support the possession of guns in a household, but at the same time am aware of some of the negative consequences, so here are some facts that I decided to research on guns in America. On the positive side, a study has proven that guns clearly deter criminals from burglarizing someone's home. The U.S. is prone to have more guns than some areas such as Britain. The burglary rate in the U.S. is under 13%, while in Britain it is 45%. In the U.S., a victim is attacked or threatened 30% of the time during a burglary.
Another showed how people who committed crimes with their gun obtained it. 2% bought their gun from a flea market, 12% purchased it from a retail store, and 80% obtained the weapon illegally. I believe that this shows us that if a criminal wants a gun, many gun control laws will not stop them from getting one.
On the negative side, many people aren't responsible enough to own a gun. 40% of American households with children have guns. In 30% of the households, the gun was stored unlocked and loaded. A gun is 43 times more likely to kill an innocent person than a criminal. I believe that this shows people should be more careful with guns, and when used properly, can be very effective in defending innocent people.
